How do we improve Financial Advisor SEO results?

We have over 15 years of experience using SEO and content marketing to help our clients rank alongside and above their top competitors.

Search engine rankings are literally based on hundreds of factors related to every web page on your site. Everything from using relevant keywords in title tags, headings, content, image and video content, and even well-written meta descriptions can have an effect on search results.

However, financial advisor SEO results are largely based on the strength of the content. High-quality content and relevant content are the fuel that feeds search engine rankings. Google wants to share the best content with searchers. So the better your content is, the more likely you are to rank for that content.

Did you know that search engines treat financial websites a bit differently? Because you deal with money and financial matters, Google holds you to a higher standard than other business categories. Google wants its search engine results pages to be filled with content that is trustworthy, accurate, and from expert sources. Financial advisors, therefore, need to display experience, expertise, authoritativeness, and trustworthiness.

You also want to write for your potential clients, not just for Google. It's more important to write for your current and potential clients than for Google and other search engines. Write and deliver content that satisfies their search query and established you as the topical authority!

How do we approach our Search Engine Optimization projects?

How do we approach our SEO services? What SEO strategies do we use to attract new website traffic and deliver more of your ideal clients to your inbox?

Step 1: Gather Data

Whenever we start a new financial advisor SEO project, we always make sure we have a good data and analytics foundation. Without a robust system for gathering data, it's hard to know if we're being successful and achieving the desired search results.

Step 2: Audit and Fix Issues

Next, we do a technical analysis of the website. Does it have any technical issues or problems that could be hindering Google's ability to index and understand the website, along with discouraging users with a bad experience? If so, it's a good time to button up and repair any issues. We use specialized website auditing software along with Google Search Console to determine if any critical errors need to be addressed.

Step 3: Research, Research, and More Research

Following that, we do research. Lots of research. We do keyword research to make sure that we're aware of the main keywords that searchers use to find sites like yours. What are prospective clients looking for? What questions are they looking to answer? What problems do they need to solve? What is the keyword difficulty? Keyword research helps us understand what people are searching for so that we target the right things and write content that answers people's questions. We use tools like Google Keyword Planner and other specialized tools to find the best keywords to target.

We also do competitor research. What are your direct competitors doing on their websites, and what are they targeting? How are they doing in the search results? By analyzing other financial advisors in your geographic area, we can see what we need to do to compete. After all, search engine competition is less about beating Google and more about beating your competition and other sites.

Step 5: Optimize Your WebPages

Next, we begin on-page SEO. This is the "traditional" part of SEO, where we apply targeted keywords to specific pages and make changes to the page. We target many different aspects of the page: page titles, meta descriptions, and various headings, along with tweaking the text content. However, Google is way beyond understanding keywords. Today, Google used artificial intelligence to understand the meaning behind themes and ideas. They know what words are associated with the topic you're writing about and if you're covering that topic well enough to deserve to rank well. So when you write a blog post about consolidating 401(k) accounts, if you want to attract local search results, then you need to make sure you cover the topic at least as well as other websites that rank well for that topic.

Step 6: Optimize Off-Page Factors

SEO for financial advisors also involves an off-page SEO strategy. This refers to activity outside of our website that points towards our websites. This usually involves working on things like inbound links, mentions, local directory sites, and citations. Some of these things are more relevant than others, but all of them can play a direct or indirect part in your overall search results.

Step 7: Optimize Your Text Content

But we aren't done! Next, we move into a second phase of SEO for your pillar pages. Pillar pages are pages that are critical to your SEO performance. Remember how we said that Google understands concepts and not just keywords? We perform a deep analysis of the target keywords for each pillar page and then make (or suggest) significant content changes to better position your content. We want to ensure we describe the content well, using similar wording as other top financial advisor websites in the search results.

Step 8: Review, Adjust, & Dominate

Wash. Rinse. Repeat. Google updates their algorithms on average 500 times per year. Your competitors aren't resting, delivering more and better content month after month. So the best financial advisors recognize that SEO is a long-term marketing strategy that requires continual work and attention.
